Portlanders protesting President George W. Bush merged together on Thursday, Aug. 21, outside the University of Portland Chiles Center.

Inside, the president and his supporters were enjoying a catered, $2,000-per-plate luncheon while protestors outside shouted their feelings to all who would or would not listen.

Portland State students were among the estimated 3,500 protestors that day. Many came for similar reasons.

“George Bush makes me angry,” exclaimed junior Matt Wallace.

Sophomore Miriam Gonzales commented, “It’s awesome that so many people were able to come together.”

Though so many outraged people gathered in cramped quarters so near the object of their anger, the protest remained fairly peaceful.

The president departed the Rose City without further incident.
