Vikings hope to shake up EWU Eagles
The Vikings will continue their five-game home stand this weekend when they take on defending Big Sky champ Eastern Washington University tonight at the Stott Center. Eastern Washington leads the all-time series 15-11 and the Big Sky series 15-0.
The last time the two teams met was Sept. 26 in Cheney, Wash., when the Vikings opened conference play against the Eagles. The match didn’t go so well for the Vikings.
The Eagles were victorious in three games, 30-21, 30-29 and 30-9. They held the Viks to a .128 hitting percentage collectively and scored 19 more kills. They also out-blocked the Vikings by recording six more team blocks.
Richell Wilson was the only significant force on offense despites the Eagles’ attempts to keep her contained. She claimed her fifth double-double of the season with 11 kills and digs.
After the Vikings face the Eagles, they will take on Western Oregon in their last non-Big Sky match of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 28. After facing Western Oregon, the Viks will finish the five-game home stand in meetings with Idaho State on Halloween and Weber State on Nov. 1, each for the second time this season.
The Vikings won’t return to the Stott Center until Nov. 13, when they meet Montana. After wrapping up the season against Montana State at PSU on the Nov. 15, the Viks will begin the Big Sky Tournament on Nov. 20.
