World says no to smokes
Tomorrow is World No Tobacco Day. The day was founded to draw awareness to the impact tobacco can have on health.
The Coalition for World No Tobacco Day will put on a number of events worldwide to increase public knowledge about the ill effects of smoking. The group will work to lobby not only professionals, such as doctors, nurses and dentists, but government officials as well.

Police held accountable
There will be a forum on police accountability June 2 in Smith Memorial Student Union, Room 228, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The forum, sponsored by Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztl퀌�n and the Black Cultural Affairs Board, will address issues surrounding the killing of Kendra James and of Mejia Poot.

Bargain books on campus
The PSU Millar Library will be holding its annual used-book sale Monday, June 2, through Wednesday, June 4, in the Smith Memorial Student Union ballroom.
The library will be selling more than 24,000 used books and magazines ranging in price from 25 cents to $1.
The sale will be open Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The books being sold are from donations made to the library that were not added to the collection for one reason or another.
Proceeds from the sale will go into a library fund that helps cover travel expenses for professional workshops.
Saving the Portland public schools
The PSU chapter of Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group (OSPIRG) is holding a town-hall-style forum on the problems facing Portland public schools this Sunday, June 1, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the South Park Blocks.
The forum, “Crises of Portland Public Schools,” will feature a panel of seven members from a variety of groups, including the Portland Association of Teachers, the Portland Public School Board and the state Legislature.
