Viking golf comes out on top
Portland State became the underdog champions at the Colorado/Heather Farr Memorial Tournament Tuesday. The Viks made a huge comeback on the second day of the tournament, jumping from fourth place to first out of 17 teams.
The Vikings shot 290 for the second day of the tournament, closing out the day four shots ahead of the closest competitor. The team entered day two of the tourney in fourth place and were five shots behind San Diego State. But 14 birdies between five Viking golfers turned the tide in Portland State’s favor.
The Vikings ended up breaking school records for a single round and 36-hole tournament. The triumph also marks only the third tournament win in the programs seven-year existence.
To top off the great performance, this senior Rebecca Randolph was named Big Sky Golfer of the Week. She shot 74-71=145 for the tournament and tied for second place. This is the second time in Randolph’s PSU career she has won the honor.
The women’s golf team will tee-off next on Oct. 20 at the Bronco Fall Classic in Boise, Idaho.
