Playing on the road Thursday night, Portland State proved too much for Montana State to handle.
The Vikings easily dispatched the winless Bobcats in three sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-19. The victory keeps Portland State’s Big Sky title hopes alive, setting them just a half game behind Northern Colorado.
The win, coupled with Eastern Washington’s loss at Montana, moves the Vikings into sole possession of second place.
Junior outside hitter Jennifer Oney continued her strong play of late, finishing the three-set match with 14 kills. Remarkably, Oney recorded a season-high .478 hitting percentage.
Oney’s junior outside hitter counterpart Marija Vojnovic also continued her tear through the conference with 13 kills. Vojnovic has now recorded double-digit kills in her last four games.
The Vikings received strong defensive play from senior libero Jalen Pendon-Thomas, who finished the game with 14 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Lana Zielke may have played her most complete game of the season, recording seven kills and five blocks.
It was the third consecutive victory for Portland State, who heads to Missoula to take on Montana Saturday night.
