The Kerry Politzer Quartet will play original and classic pieces as part of the Performance Attendance Recital Series held at Lincoln Recital Hall Thursday, May 31, at noon. New York jazz man George Colligan will perform with them as a guest artist.

Colligan, who plays a variety of instruments from the trumpet to the organ to the piano, will be playing drums in the upcoming event.

“People should come ready to hear a variety of tunes and many different tempos and rhythms,” Politzer said.

The quartet is comprised of a pianist, drummer, upright bassist and saxophonist. Among their repertoire for the recital is a Brazilian-inspired piece by Antônio Jobim titled “Waves.”

“‘Waves’ is a bossa nova, which is a Brazilian rhythm that came out of a whole movement in the 1960s where classical music and Brazilian music fused. That’s where sambas and a lot of our sound come from,” Politzer said. “We will also be presenting an original bossa nova and music from my fifth CD, Blue in Blue.”

Politzer herself has produced three albums; the fourth features her quartet. She began playing music at age four, and her music has been featured on the History Channel and the Food Network. She currently lives in Portland with her son.

The last event in the Performance Attendance Recital Series will held Saturday, June 2. All events in the series are free and open to the public.
