Getting Portland off the grid, and onto the roof

Plans are beginning to unfold for an experiment on the roof of Science Building 2, which is on track to start in June. The experiment will occur on the third floor of the building, coupling two forms of sustainable technology that have not yet been researched together.

Senate prepares to pass the torch

The mood was relaxed at the student senate’s penultimate meeting Tuesday, as they prepared to pass the torch to next year’s administration. The senators, whose term ends May 31, were mostly concerned with preparations for the transition of the ASPSU Executive Staff and student senate for the 2009–10 academic year.

Community and teamwork

The Portland State cycling club has had a successful year with a slew of team members receiving various awards and distinctions. Of the 63 registered members, 36 competed in the six omniums that comprise the collegiate competitive season.

Portland State’s very own beer

Portland State now has its very own beer … kind of. Rogue Brewery and the Portland State Alumni Association unveiled a repackaging of Rogue’s Brutal Bitter beer Thursday afternoon in a happy hour event aimed at young alumni.

Ready to impress and assess

The Vikings’ season may not officially begin until September, but it will be game on for the team on Saturday morning at the Stott Community Field. Weeks of spring training will culminate in a scrimmage that head coach Jerry Glanville calls a, “who can you trust” game.

Open mic: closed for business?

Student government upgrades Web portals

With ASPSU elections wrapping up earlier this week, the focus now shifts to the incoming student government administration. To aid in this transition, ASPSU is hard at work on a few new technology projects in hopes of bringing student government up to speed.

Spiritual ambiance

Liz Harris, aka Grouper, is the queen of local ambiance. When she performs, Harris more often than not chooses to sit on the floor, legs crisscrossed, effect pedals spilled out in front her, using her hands to loop, twist, warm and cool her variety of ethereal tones.

Finally official

The inauguration of Portland State President Wim Wiewel took place on Friday, May 1. The day saw clear, sunny skies and a procession and ceremony involving more than 500 officials, staff, faculty, students and local representatives.

Feels like the first time

The familiar crash of helmets and bodies that signals the return of football could once again be heard around the Stott Community Field last Friday morning as the Portland State football team held 45 minutes of rough and tumble practice at the conclusion of one of their spring practice sessions.
