Portland State freshman and prospective communications major Megan Govi is one of four freshmen on the Vikings women’s tennis roster. Hailing from San Rafael, Calif., she has already made her mark on the 2011–12 season.
Into the wilderness
The Outdoor Program at the Academic Student Recreation Center, in coordination with the Wilderness Medical Associates will be hosting a Wilderness First Responder course from Saturday, March 20, to Wednesday, March 24. This course is available to Portland State students, staff, faculty and the general public.
Vikings down Pilots in lacrosse
The Portland State lacrosse club defeated cross-town rivals University of Portland 7-5 in a Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association match played at the Peter W. Stott Field Saturday. The MCLA Division I Vikings led the game 6-1 at halftime and managed to hold off a late rally by the Division II Portland.
Vikings shoot for the Big Sky
Women’s golf is one of the most successful athletics programs at Portland State. The team is the reigning Big Sky Conference champion and has won six conference titles since 2003.
Tour de Oregon
The Outdoor Program at the Academic Student Recreation Center will be organizing a two-day bike tour along scenic Oregon coast highway 101. The trip will cover around 40 to 50 miles every day and is open to all Portland State students, staff and faculty.
Big weekend in the Big Sky
For the Portland State men’s and women’s tennis teams, this weekend’s results could have a significant impact on their season’s story. Both teams go into the weekend searching for their first conference win of 2012.
Two more losses for the Vikings
The Portland State men’s tennis team lost 6-1 to Utah State in Logan, Utah on Saturday and went down with the same scoreline against Big Sky conference rivals Idaho State in Pocatello, Idaho on Sunday. This was their fourth loss this season in four games; they are currently 0-1 in the conference.
Long road ahead
The Portland State women’s tennis team kicked off its 2012 season with a 7-0 loss against Washington State, a 4-3 win against Lewis-Clark State College and a 7-0 loss to Idaho last weekend in Pullman, Wash.
Scaling the walls
The Portland State bouldering club was formed in fall 2011 with the intention of building a solid climbing community and participating in competitions against other colleges.
Since then more than 20 members have signed up with the club.
Leading from the front
In his second year with the Portland State men’s tennis team, redshirt sophomore Roman Margoulis has stepped up to the number one position in both singles and doubles competition for the 2012 season.
Born in Kiev, Ukraine and raised in Luxemborg, Margoulis played in the 2008 Davis Cup and was ranked third in his country. After spending a year at the University of Utah, he moved to Portland State last season.
Slow start to the season
The Portland State men’s tennis team kicked off their 2012 campaign with two defeats last weekend. After their home game against Seattle University got canceled due to inclement weather, the Vikings took on Pac-12 team Oregon in Eugene on Friday and lost 7-0.
On Sunday, Portland State took on Big Sky rivals Montana State at home in Vancouver, Wash., but went down 6-1 to the Bobcats. However, this was not a conference game. With these results, the Vikings fall to a 0-2 record overall this season.
