For Delaney Conway, sticking around has clearly been the right choice. When faced with adversity, the senior has stuck around. When four teammates left the women’s basketball program this past summer, the Seattle, Wash. native stuck around. When former head coach Charity Elliott bolted for San Diego last June, Conway did what she has always done–she stuck around.
Sticking around
Back to business
After a tough road loss last weekend, Portland State (15-4, 5-1) returned home and regained their confidence, posting a 77-56 win over Eastern Washington (3-16, 5-1) Saturday.
Already playing in the Garden
Just four months ago James Taylor began the process of organizing the Portland State Lacrosse Club, but the ambitions of Taylor and his fellow lacrosse fanatics came to fruition Thursday, as the Vikings scrimmaged against Western Oregon University at the Rose Garden.
Late fire not enough
A horrendous shooting performance from the field and an early 18-0 run by Northern Colorado proved too much for Portland State to overcome Saturday, as the Vikings lost on the road 61-56 against the Bears.
Frosh players, veteran talent
In case you have yet to notice, the women’s basketball program is developing a knack for recruiting the right type of players. After Vikings Kelsey Kahle (2006) and Claire Faucher (2007) gathered the Big Sky Conference’s Outstanding Freshman award the last two seasons, they may have to split this year’s award into several pieces to accommodate the outstanding play of four freshmen wearing Viking green this season.
Points taken
With an opportunity to lay an early season hold on the Big Sky Conference championship, Portland State’s (14-3, 4-0 BSC) balanced scoring attack buried the Idaho State Bengals 97-57 at the Stott Center Saturday afternoon.
Vikings top Weber State 64-49
In their first game at the Stott Center since Nov. 25, the Vikings (13-3, 3-0 BSC) were able to overcome a slow start and grind out a 64-49 victory over the visiting Weber State Wildcats (6-8, 0-2 BSC).
Chasing hardcourt history
Considering the high number of questions and concerns swirling around the Portland State women’s basketball team coming into the season, there were few reasons to be optimistic.
Not letting up
If the first weekend of conference play is any indication, Portland State will not suffer a letdown against Big Sky foes after surprising many with solid non-conference play.
Viking recall
As Dec. 31 rolls around and the calendar is flipped on another year, it’s time to reflect on one of the most memorable 365 days in the history of Portland State athletics. Here’s a look back at how each of Portland State’s programs fared in 2007.
Perfection lives on
In their most difficult test of this early season, the Portland State women’s basketball team overcame several challenges to remain undefeated, notching a signature victory over Gonzaga (4-1) in the Stott Center Sunday afternoon.
