Intro to Asian American Studies
A new class, “Intro to Asian American Studies,” is being offered for spring term 2010. The class qualifies as a Women’s Studies elective and will be taught by Kevin Thomas.
Exec staff shuffle
ASPSU’s executive staff recently refilled two positions, although an additional position is yet to be filled. Staffers are encouraging students who want to be involved, to become active now.

A few hundred students gathered yesterday at 1 p.m. in the South Park Blocks at Portland State for the National Day of Action to Defend Education.

Budget caps
The Student Fee Committee has established travel and stipend spending caps for student groups and has released its initial budget allocations for groups and departments.
Cashews for Africa
LEAD International has chosen Portland State as the first university to take part in a LEAD project under their guidance. Five PSU students are currently helping to raise money to support a woman in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa, in launching a cashew processing plant.
PSU student goes to Gaza
Sarah Hassouneh, a philosophy student in her third year at Portland State, went to the Middle East to attend the Gaza Freedom March over winter break.
Bookstore still recovering
Though the Portland State Bookstore is fully operational, the cleaning and recovery effort is still underway after 120,000 gallons of water filled the basement on Sunday, Feb. 7. The store estimates thousands of dollars worth of damage but the price and availability of textbooks will not be affected.
