Human rights and pride sponsoring: In response to Elizabeth Bommarito’s “Support or Advertising? Corporate sponsorship at Pride weekend raises questions” (June 28):

I recently encountered a window display at the Portland, OR downtown Nike store in support of gay-pride which is exciting because it reflects the company willingness to publicly support the queer community in its fight for the same rights, recognition, and legal protections as straight couples.

Legislation on Generic Drugs Makes Little Sense

If Sudafed causes you to slip into a coma, you can bet that somebody is going to get sued. But thanks to a Supreme Court ruling last Thursday, if the generic equivalent does the same thing, there is nothing you can do about it. According to the court, makers of generic drugs cannot be sued for not warning consumers of potential side effects if they’ve copied down the same warnings that are on the brand-name equivalents.

Now that summer is upon us, many are itching to get outside. Due to the not-so-sunny climate of Portland, many are escaping to warmer places in order to “catch a few rays.” Of course, there are obvious health risks that come with tanning, so many often lather up with sunscreen in order to be protected from those scary ultraviolet rays.

During the last school year, thousands of Portland high school students boarded TriMet buses in order to make their way to school. While many might feel that the students are a pain, TriMet provides the only public busing opportunity for these students. Many of these teenagers and children would not have a mode of transportation to and from school without such opportunities.

For over a decade, corporations have used big-budget campaigns to endorse the Gay Pride Parade and to create mega-advertising showing their alliance with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer community.
