Phil Hansen was in art school when he developed a tremor in his hand. That would surely be troubling for most of us, but as long as we could still hold a beer can successfully we’d probably be OK. For Hansen, it was the potential end of a career; his dreams of pursuing art—the one thing he was passionate about—came to halt even as his hand never did.
As summer slips quicker than financial aid through our fingers, some students are lucky enough to finally bring their college career to an end. Unfortunately, they won’t have the option of a summer graduation ceremony to celebrate their hard-earned achievements.

Earlier this year, the name Edward Snowden was not likely to gain any attention in casual conversation. Now the name is well known around the world—and even if you don’t remember his name, you remember what he did. Only a few weeks ago, Snowden, an ex-contractor for the National Security Agency, leaked secret information regarding the government surveillance program in the United States to the Associated Press. His decision to release the nature of the surveillance program has been met with a lot of questions and concerns from American citizens.
A Portland cyclist has filed a lawsuit for $10,000 for injuries she received from a collision with a police car, prompting me to once again wonder how exactly the police uphold traffic laws and safety measures. I also wonder why this woman was riding a $750 beach cruiser on the sidewalk of one of the least-safe streets in the city.
Subsidized Stafford loans are now officially twice as expensive as they were last month, going from a 3.4 percent interest rate to a whopping 6.8 percent.
The world is a big place. As long as there have been people walking around, we’ve been exploring and procreating to further our society. Now we’re halfway through 2013, and our population is well into the billions.

What is an atheist? Any simple Internet search will tell you that an atheist is someone who rejects the existence of any godlike deities. However, for many people, especially those not familiar with the concept of atheism, this raises more questions than it answers.
As a frequent pedestrian in our small “big” city, I sometimes come across situations where drivers, bicyclists or other pedestrians do really irritating things.
