Bigger, bigger and bigger

Portland State, Oregon’s largest university, hopes to expand its student base as well as its physical presence in downtown Southwest Portland. PSU President Wim Wiewel told Oregon Public Broadcasting that one of the things that drives him crazy is when people say they know PSU is at the southern end of downtown but don’t know precisely where it is.

A few weeks ago, Mike Rice, the men’s basketball coach for Rutgers University, was fired after ESPN broadcast a video in which he was seen physically and verbally abusing his players.

Sen. Tom Coburn, M.D., R-Okla., doesn’t believe that political science is worthy. He made that pretty clear when he offered an amendment to H.R. 933, the spending bill that allows the federal government to continue to operate for the rest of the fiscal year.

Dear President Wiewel, My name is Lisa Meersman and I received a Bachelor’s in Community Development from Portland State this last December. When I started at PSU as a freshman in 2008, I founded Take Back the Tap at Portland State with four other students. I continued to coordinate the campaign until December of 2012, when I graduated.

Imagine walking into a garden filled with seasonal produce readily available for harvest. Now imagine that the same garden is easily accessible to the public for said harvest and consumption.

Measuring our success

Portlanders generally have a pretty clear idea of what their city is all about. We tend to think of our fair metropolis as an eco-friendly utopia filled with a variety of poor dressers, umbrella haters and the food cart fixated.

A group of Portland State students recently finished a research project entitled Right to Relief, which focused on the lack of public restrooms in Portland and how it affects the community. I’ve often wondered about the issue.
