All 12 of Portland State’s points were on field goals by Chris Chalmers. The 10th-ranked Cowboys held the 13th-ranked Vikings to minus-10 yards rushing.

PSU quarterback Tygue Howland and fullback Bobby McClintock were injured during the game, according to the Oregonian.

No. 3 tailback Kris Bush had two of McNeese State’s three rushing touchdowns and Derrick Fourroux had touchdown passes of 51 and 15 yards. Bush, who started the game behind Toddrick Pendland and Jamie Leonard, had touchdown runs of 3 and 16 yards for McNeese in the season opener for both teams.

Fourroux’s long TD throw was to Immanuel Friddle and the other to Steven Whitehead. He was 11-of-23 for 191 yards.

Leonard had 89 yards rushing on 11 carries, Fourroux had 64 and one touchdown, and Bush 40.
