Tuition waiver bill to benefit families of military personnel

Senate Bill 1066 passed through the Oregon Legislature this week, offering a full tuition waiver for children and spouses of U.S. Armed Forces personnel who have died during active duty, become fully disabled during service or died as a result of a disability sustained during active duty, all after Sept. 11.

The full tuition waiver applies to any eligible in-state student seeking a bachelor’s or master’s degree at an Oregon University System school and Oregon Health and Sciences University. OUS estimates that 14 to 18 students would use these benefits statewide, and they could use the refund only for classes that have space available.

To apply for the tuition waiver, visit www.ous.edu and select “Veterans’ Dependent Tuition Waiver” on the front page to download the application. Turn the completed form into the Veterans Affairs clerk in Neuberger Hall, room 104.
