I have some generous but unsolicited advice for the ASPSU presidential candidates: campaign on the return of Taco Bell to campus. Voter turnout will increase dramatically, so it is a win for both you and for students. Propose adding an all-hours walk-through Taco Bell to the side of Smith. Its value menu will help students cope with the rising cost of food and help transform our commuter school into a destination eatery.

Student parents matter

The Women’s Resource Center supports putting the needs of student parents on the university agenda. Policy changes that remove obstacles for student parent education positively affect parents and children. The Women’s Resource Center can help. The WRC, located in Montgomery Hall, has a new lounge, is kid-friendly and is a place where student parents can get more connected. Nursing moms use our space to pump, and others drop in before or after class.

The Program for Returning Women Students at the Women’s Resource Center provides support and resources to women returning to school, including women with children. We offer the Returning Women’s Workshop (WS 120) to address concerns women have when they come back to school. Registration for spring has begun. I am also available individually to meet with students. Come find us. When a parent goes to school, a whole family learns.

Unhappy with Soto

Rudy Soto couldn’t leave office fast enough for me. The incompetence of not only him but his entire cabinet is outraging and insulting to anyone with human intelligence. We are talking about someone who has such a megalomaniac mind that he has convinced himself that he is a populist and a person of the people. Maybe someone needs to hold a mirror up to his face and show him what’s really going on.

This is someone who couldn’t even pass the very minimal requirements to run for student office. But, yes, Soto and his cronies weaseled their way into the election (can anyone parallel this to the current Bush administration?). If his intelligence were half the size of his ego, he would know he is a failure as a president. On a more positive note, I do wish Soto had been born 30 years ago–he would have made an excellent addition to the Bush Cabinet: a liar, cheat, and completely incompetent.

Who needs job protection?

I see no reason why the professors need to belong to any union. Why do they need job protection? They are free to teach at any university. Let them walk out, stand on the street and then replace them. I encourage the administration to hold the line.
