Don’t forget
about commencement!
This year’s spring commencement ceremony will be Sunday, June 17 at 10 a.m. Oregon Supreme Court Justice Paul DeMuniz will deliver the commencement address.
The event will be held at the Rose Garden Arena and does not require tickets – seating will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Outstanding teachers recognized
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is holding its fourth annual John Eliot Allen Outstanding Teaching Awards today, given in honor of the founder of the PSU geology program. The award consists of a plaque and a $500 check.Funding for the awards is collected from alumni, staff, faculty and administrator donations. This year the program brought in $10,000 in donations.
This year’s recipients include: Kenneth Ames, anthropology; Dean Atkinson, chemistry; Lola Lawson, child and family services; Gisele Tierney, communications; Mary King, economics; Shelley Reece, English; Joseph Maser, environmental sciences; Keith Hadley, geography; Martin Streck, geology; Tim Garrison, history; Laurence Kominz, Japanese; Marjorie Enneking, mathematics; Donald Moor, philosophy; Jonathan Abramson, physics; Janice Haaken, psychology and Andrea Ruotolo, speech and hearing science.
The following are repeat winners: Marjorie Terdal, applied linguistics; Richard Forbes, biology; Kimberley Brown, international studies and Veronica Dujon, sociology.
Correction
Several errors appeared in the May 23 Vanguard article entitled “Smith announces funding for low-income students.” Portland State’s award of $261,301 will go only towards the Educational Opportunity Program, not Upward Bound. Not all state schools in Oregon will receive funding.
