Street Soldiers
Beginning Oct. 7, KPSU-AM 1450 will broadcast the syndicated show Street Soldiers from 1 to 3 p.m. Street Soldiers is a weekly call-in show that focuses on issues in the community such as crime, youth violence, gangs, drugs, teen pregnancy and many others.

Street Soldiers is America’s only violence prevention talk show and the launch of the program in Portland is the first time the show has been allowed in any major market outside of San Francisco, where it is produced.

Sexual Harassment Resource training
The PSU Sexual Harassment Resource Network is looking for members. There will be a two-part training session which will cover related laws, resolution options, responsibilities of members and necessary skills.

The first session is on Tuesday, Oct. 23 in Room 238, Smith Center. The second session is on Tuesday, Oct. 30 in room 236 Smith Center. Both sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon.

Record number of students
With an estimated 22,000 students enrolled, this fall will mark, for the third year in a row, a record enrollment at Portland State. This is a 15 percent increase from last year.

Official numbers aren’t available until the first four weeks of the term, but estimates show that the student body will be the biggest and most diverse ever.

Domestic Violence Awareness month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. The Women’s Resource Center at PSU is helping organize a candlelight vigil to commemorate survivors of domestic violence on Oct. 18 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Urban Plaza at Southwest Broadway and Montgomery.

The Women’s Resource Center is also organizing a Walk for Justice starting at 2 p.m. at Holladay Park. The goal is to support the need for gender responsive programs in prisons and to help address the suffering and trauma related to past interpersonal violence.
