Potter steals primary

Former Police Chief Tom Potter edged out predicted front-runnerCity Commissioner Jim Francesconi in last night’s race for PortlandMayor.

As of press time, Potter led Francesconi 41 percent to 37percent.

Because no candidate received 50 percent of the vote, the twocandidates will face off in the November 2 general election.

Phil Busse and James Posey came in third and fourth,respectively, Busse receiving 6 percent and Posey receiving 5percent. The remaining 18 candidates each received less than threepercent of the vote.
