Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden will speak on campus about a new credit card safety bill he is introducing to the Senate today at 10:30 a.m.

The U.S. senator will hold his press conference on the second floor of the Smith Memorial Student Union along with Heather Mattioli, Portland State’s assistant director of financial aid. Mattioli will speak about the negative effects of credit card debt on students.

The Credit Card Safety Star Act of 2007 would make language in credit card agreements clearer and limit jargon and rate the consumer safety of credit cards on a scale of one to five, according to an article in Friday’s Portland Business Journal. Wyden has been a member of the U.S. Senate since 1996.
