Science Building 1 gets new roof

Long overdue for a new roof, Science Building 1 recently got a replacement. In the upcoming months, other campus buildings will be receiving roof replacements, including the University Center and University Services Building, said Nancy Grech, assistant director for Facilities and Planning.

The estimated costs and completion date of the upcoming project were not given upon request from the Vanguard. According to the Facilities and Planning Department, the glass panels of the greenhouses located in Science Building 1 also had to be replaced.

The bidding for the re-roofing of SB1 and repair to the greenhouses was awarded last summer to a roofing company from Hillsboro, Grech said. In addition to a new roof being installed, Grech said, “the roof panels of the greenhouses were replaced along with the antiquated lighting and ventilation system for the greenhouses.”

Additional upcoming projects on campus include an estimated $2 million to replace fume hoods in the Science Building laboratories. Grech said that the new fume hoods will be installed to allow better ventilation. The theater in Ondine will also be undergoing construction to give better access for people with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
