After dropping a conference match to Big Sky foe Montana, the Viking men earned their first victory on Sunday, defeating Linfield College 5-2.
The victory improves the Vikings record to 1-7, however, Portland State is still 0-3 in conference action. Alex VanDershelden, Kyle Erickson, Sean Eberle and Alex Hart all recorded individual victories for the Vikings.

With the back-to-back victories, the Vikings women’s team sits at 3-5 on the season. Freshman Lacey Pflibsen extended her winning streak to six consecutive matches.
Sims earns 11th place at national track meet
Competing at the USA Track and Field Championships in Boston over the weekend, Viking senior Caressa Sims earned her spot among the nation’s elite athletes. Even while facing the nation’s toughest competition, Sims finished in 11th place in the weight throw event with a distance of 60′ 6.75″.
After arriving at Portland State as a sprinter, Sims was able use her athletic ability to convert to a thrower. Since the switch, Sims has seen tremendous results, as her coaches and teammates hold her in high esteem for her supreme work ethic and dedication to the sport.
On Jan. 19, Sims set an all-time Portland State record at the University of Washington Preview in Seattle, throwing an outstanding 62’10.5″. This week the track team concludes their indoor season, as they head to Pocatello, Idaho to compete in the Big Sky Championships at Idaho State University.
