Spotlight Athlete of the week

The Vanguard recently tracked down the speedy sprinter. Why did you come to Portland State? I really wanted a change. Minnesota is cold, and I know that Portland is cold also, but it is nice here. My coach [Kebba Tolbert] has coached many good sprinters and helped them improve, and I hoped that he could help me get better as well.

Why did you come to Portland State? I really wanted a change. Minnesota is cold, and I know that Portland is cold also, but it is nice here. My coach [Kebba Tolbert] has coached many good sprinters and helped them improve, and I hoped that he could help me get better as well.

What is your best moment on the track? I don’t really have a best moment so far. I broke the school record at Minnesota State, and that was great, but after every race, I feel like I can improve. When I win the Olympics, that will be a proud moment for me.

If you could change one of your sport’s rules, what would it be? I would change the false start rule and allow you to false start three times before being disqualified. I always false start.

What is your greatest strength? I think that my greatest strength is my talent, my ability to do what I do on the track.

What is your favorite place to eat on campus? Subway.

What is your favorite thing to do in Portland? I really enjoy riding the streetcar. It’s a new thing for me. I had never seen anything like it before I got here.

What is your most unique training method? I don’t really have any. I usually focus on the start. I do it before the race five times and try to get in my rhythm.

What is the first item that you would buy if you won the lottery? (After much deliberation) I would buy a Lamborghini: a black Lamborghini with the cool doors and 22-inch rims–with my name over the hood.

What’s your most embarrassing moment on the track? At one meet, I was taking off my warm-ups and getting ready for my race, and I accidentally took off my shorts as well as my warm-up pants. I was standing there in my underwear scared. People probably saw. I definitely lost that race.

If you could attend one sporting event anywhere in the world, where would it be? The Summer Olympics. I would like to watch the sprints and the long jump.

Do you have any hidden talents? I can sing.

What is the last thing that you cooked? Chicken-flavored Top Ramen.

Would you take a bullet for anyone? Is this life threatening? No. Could I still run? Yeah. I would take a bullet for my dad.

Do you read the Vanguard?I have never heard of it.
