The cost of summer classes at Portland State is increasing this year by $50 for undergraduate students and $328 for graduate students.

Summer classes for undergraduate students taking 12 credits will cost $1,505 per term in 2008. The cost of 12-credit tuition for graduate students has risen to $3,461. Both numbers only apply to students who qualify as Oregon residents.

Now, PSU undergraduates pay the fourth highest summer tuition in Oregon, while graduate students pay the highest tuition at any public university in the state. In 2007, PSU undergrads still paid the fourth highest, while grad students paid the second highest tuition.

PSU graduate student summer tuition rates increased the most from 2007 to 2008: by a total of 9.5 percent.

The increased cost for undergraduate students was much more mellow, rising by 3.4 percent, the third highest in the Oregon University System.

The cost of tuition at PSU went up drastically for the 2007-08 school year, mostly due to increased student fee costs. Fees at PSU shot up 13 percent last year, while national tuition rates rose 6.6 percent for four-year public universities.
