Just Add Water/ West, a.k.a. JAW/ West, is in its third year of staging new play readings. JAW/ West is coordinated and produced through the Portland Center Stage. This year from numerous entries they’ve selected four scripts to workshop and provide with a public reading on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29. The first to hit the stage Saturday at 4 p.m. is “Outrage,” by Itamar Moses, and tells the story of a university bequeathed $40 million. Next, at 8 p.m., is “Parts They Call Deep,” by Lauren Gunderson, and follows three generations of southern women on a road trip in a Winnebago. Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. is “Tundra,” by Joseph Fisher, which concerns a reporter following a famous composer into the frozen north for a story. Lastly, at 8 p.m. Sunday, is “This Thing of Darkness” a story about six individuals meeting in a New England summer cabin and is written by Craig Lucas and David Schulner.

After the performances audience members are invited to join in a discussion of the piece with the playwright, director and actors.
