Viking pounce opponent after opponent

The Portland State women퀌_s soccer team did it again Sunday. It trounced Oregon State University, 2-0, wining its fourth straight game and reaching the .500 mark with a 5-5-0 record.

Freshman forward Sophia Mundy struck first against the Beavers with a goal stemming from a pass from Karly Larson. Mundy퀌_s shot hit home after deflecting off the post, leaving Beaver goalie Melissa Onstad scratching her head. Mundy now has four goals for the season

The Vikings added another goal late in the game when Annie Peccia headed a corner kick from Julie Forrest pass Onstad. The shot was Peccia퀌_s first goal of the season and Forrest퀌_s fifth assist of the season.

Viking goalie Joell Giger earned five saves against the Beavers and earned her second shutout in three games. Portland State outshot the Beavers 14-12 and recorded four corner kicks, compared the OSU퀌_s two.

The team seemed to carry over this momentum to past Friday퀌_s 3-1 pounding of University of the Pacfic. The Vikings deflated the egos of the Tigers, who had notched their first season win against San Francisco the week before. Mundy once again took the spotlight with two goals during the match, which took place at the Nike World Campus in Beaverton. Carly Sawhill later put the nail in the Tigers coffin with a head-shot goal that hit the spot.

The Vikings will be on the road for non-conference play when they face the University of Washington this Friday in Seattle.
