Before tip-off Tuesday night, Portland State men’s basketball had already clinched the right to host next week’s Big Sky Tournament, and secured the conference’s regular-season title.

But Eastern Washington defeated Portland State by one point in their last matchup Dec. 22. As a result, the Eagles were the only Big Sky foe Portland State had yet to beat.

The Vikings avenged their early-season loss, squeaking past Eastern Washington 76-74 on senior night in the Stott Center.

With Portland State trailing 74-73 and 24 seconds remaining, junior point guard Jeremiah Dominguez answered chants of “Go Viks” and “Big Sky champs” from the 1,228 fans in attendance with a pair of free throws. Dominguez’s two points gave the Vikings a one-point advantage.

Following junior forward Julius Thomas’ two missed free throws, senior guard Deonte Huff soared for a rebound and was immediately fouled. Knocking down his first shot from the line, Huff sealed the victory and capped off a 20-point performance.

The Vikings improved their record to 18-1 this season when they score 70 points or more.
