Playing their most balanced golf of the season, the Portland State women’s golf team earned seventh place at the BYU Dixie Classic Golf Tournament this past weekend.

The tournament featured 13 teams and included two squads-Idaho State and Weber State-that the Vikings will face in the Big Sky Championships later this month.

En route to their best finish of the season thus far, the Vikings were led by sophomore Danielle Ranallo whose (77-77-81=235) three-day total landed her in 24th place overall. Ranallo was one of four Vikings who placed among the top 30 for the tournament.

The experience and leadership of junior All-Conference player Kayla Morinaga has aided the Vikings thus far this season as the team prepares to play their last regular season tournament this week before heading to Arizona for the Big Sky Championships on April 20-23.

Morinaga earned her second Big Sky Conference Player of the Week honor recently and would be a crucial component of the Vikings’ success should Portland State continue to improve upon its third place finish at the Big Sky Tournament last season.

Up next, Portland State heads to Stanford University this week to compete in the Peg Barnard California Collegiate this weekend.
