After the opening day of the Big Sky Conference Golf Championship the Portland State Vikings sit in third place, just six shots off the pace set by Eastern Washington.
The five Portland State players competing in the event combined to shoot 306, and are a combined 18 over par with two days remaining in the tournament.
Portland State was led by sophomore transfer Hannah Bews, whose 71 landed her in second place overall. The Vikings were further paced by freshman Alexia Brown’s 75, which was good for fifth place after the opening day of the tournament on Monday.
Eastern Washington freshman Kellie Holmstedt leads the field after firing a one-under-par 71.
The Vikings sit in prime position to move up in the standings if Bews, Brown and junior All-Conference performer Kayla Morinaga continue their outstanding play, as Portland State is currently the only school with three golfers among the top-10.
Day two of the tournament is scheduled for today and it will conclude Wednesday.
