Fresh off the completion of the spring sports schedule, the Portland State Athletic Department recently announced its student-athlete award winners.

The 2007-08 academic year was likely the finest year ever for Portland State athletics, and the awards were verification of that success.

Both basketball teams were represented in the awards. The Big Sky Conference Player of the Year, junior point guard Jeremiah Dominguez, was named the Team Male Athlete of the Year. Dominguez guided the team to its first ever berth in the NCAA tournament in March.

Sophomore point guard Claire Faucher was named the Team Female Athlete of the Year, after her remarkable season that included being named an honorable mention All-American and leading the nation in assists.

Senior Delaney Conway was named the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year after landing on the All-American Academic Team. Both Faucher’s and Conway’s national awards were firsts in the history of Portland State athletics.

Other athletes recognized were sophomore Nick Trubachik, who won the decathlon at the Big Sky Championships and was named as Individual Male Athlete of the Year, and senior Caressa Sims, who qualified for the NCAA West Regional in both the hammer throw and the shot put.

Former football player Jordan Senn was honored as the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. Senn concluded his Portland State career in 2007 and recently signed a contract to play with the Indianapolis Colts in the N.F.L.
