Rozcicha on the right track
Portland State had one goal at the University of Washington Indoor Preview last weekend: to send a message. With high expectations for the women’s team, the Vikings wanted the rest of the conference to know that they had reason to be confident.
Men’s basketball gaining confidence
After losing their last three games, the Portland State men’s basketball team bounced back this week with two victories over Big Sky opponents at home. The Vikings followed up an 18-point victory over California State University, Sacramento on Thursday with a 79-74 win over Northern Arizona University on Saturday. They are now 5-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
Long break no problem for track and field
The Portland State track and field team enjoyed a long vacation, but that doesn’t mean they took it easy. With many of the athletes sacrificing their break to train, head coach Ronnye Harrison and the Vikings are ready for a busy indoor season. Portland State will be back on the track this weekend at the University of Washington Indoor Preview in Seattle. The meet will be the team’s first since the Jacksons Open in Boise, Idaho at the end of November.
Rough road through Big Sky
The Portland State men’s basketball team heads back to the Stott Center on Thursday after a difficult road trip through Montana last week. The Vikings are now four games into their conference schedule and have dropped the last three in a row. After a solid win over Idaho State University on Dec. 20, the team suffered close defeats to Weber State University, Montana State University and the University of Montana. Portland State is 3-8 overall this season.
Track and field returns
The cross country campaign has come and gone, and the Portland State track and field program is now in full sprint toward the indoor season. The Vikings will be competing in the Jacksons Open today and tomorrow in Boise, Idaho.
Lillard leads the way for Blazers
As soon as the season began, the Portland Trail Blazers found themselves faced with an uphill climb. A young team with very little experience would be put to the test against the likes of San Antonio, Oklahoma City and the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers in their first 12 games, with a seven-game road trip looming after that. Fans knew the season could very easily get out of hand.
Vikings survive Ducks
PSU’s women’s basketball head coach Sherri Murrell knew that, out of all of the keys to the game against a fast and aggressive University of Oregon squad, the most important would be the Vikings’ ability to simply outlast their tireless opponents.
Vikings stumble on the road
Portland State fell to the University of Oregon in Eugene on Monday night, after eight turnovers in the first four minutes paved the way for a 32-12 lead for the Ducks early in the first half. The slow start was just too much for the Vikings to overcome.
Cross country runs with the best
Portland State’s cross country team went up against some of the best runners on the West Coast on Friday when they competed in the NCAA West Regional Championship in Seattle. Senior Amber Rozcicha paced the women’s team, while the men were led by freshman Neil Seibert.
Women’s soccer falls in Pocatello
After a long season, Portland State lost 3-2 to the University of Montana in their opening match at the Big Sky Conference Championship in Pocatello, Idaho. The Vikings were playing for a chance to advance to the final round of the tournament, but came up short despite goals from sophomore Daniela Solis and senior Amanda Howie.
