PSU again named to Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges

Portland State has been re-named to the Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges. Published every April, the guide highlights the “greenest” 322 U.S. colleges in recognition of efforts toward sustainability. PSU is recognized for being “a national leader in community-based learning” and a wide range of green initiatives spearheaded by two internal departments: the Institute for Sustainable Solutions and the Campus Sustainability Office.

TriMet’s budget battle continues

Public hearing generates additional public concern; TriMet retains hope for resolution

Tension remains high between TriMet and its ridership after a public hearing on the agency’s final budget proposal on April 25. The meeting marked a continued effort by TriMet to elicit riders’ opinions and concerns on proposed systemic changes made to close the budget gap of $12 million for the 2013 fiscal year. The final proposal, announced April 11, would include, among other things, the elimination of fare zones and the MAX Free Rail Zone, the move to a flat-fare system, and bus service cuts and reconfigurations.

Sustainable printing system implemented in Neuberger Hall computer lab

New print workstations help conserve paper

At the beginning of this term, the Portland State Office of Information Technology installed new print release workstations in the Neuberger Hall basement computer lab. The new system holds all print jobs from the computers in a “virtual queue,” said Michael Jantzen, a member in user support services on the labs and classrooms team. The job is held in the virtual queue until the student types in their username and the job is released.

ASPSU continues voting registration drive

Volunteers utilize new and old strategies to surpass registration goals

Continuing with its platform of utilizing student voting power, the Associated Students of Portland State University is pressing onward in its efforts to get students registered to vote. ASPSU representatives can be seen throughout the PSU campus handing out voter registration cards or giving presentations to class audiences.

Alex Accetta elected at-large director of NIRSA

PSU Campus Rec director will continue university work while taking on new position

Alex Accetta, current director of Portland State’s Campus Rec, has been elected as one of seven board members of the National Intramural Recreational Sports Assocation. Headquarterd in Corvallis, NIRSA was founded in 1950. According to the association’s website, the organization includes nearly 4,000 professional, student and associate members and serves universities throughout the U.S., Canada and other countries.
