Perspective: May Day
Hundreds of immigrant and labor rights demonstrators packed the Park Blocks in the early morning Monday, then marched through the city carrying signs and flags calling for workplace and immigration rights.
More than 5,000 participants filled the streets of Portland as a part of nationwide May Day demonstrations. Labor rights are traditionally celebrated worldwide May 1, but this year demonstrators also rallied against legislation passed recently that will make illegal immigration a felony.
