Equal pay for equal degrees

It is 2010—years ago people predicted that we would have hover cars and personal jet packs and even cloning. But we are so far away from that ideal while we are still struggling with the concept of equality. Women still make less money than men do, despite being equal in advanced degrees.

Tiger is not out of the woods

Sex and scandal are not the most recent things that Tiger Woods should be ashamed of. Both Woods and Nike have reached new lows with the latest Nike advertisement featuring the golf star’s late father’s voice.

Society needs history

Oregon and Portland have a rich culture about them: People always refer to the Chinese Gardens and the Art Museum as staples of the Portland area, but there is another part of Oregon that does not seem to get as much attention. That part is the Oregon Historical Society.

Education is expensive

Your whole life you hear of the stereotypical college student: the broke and starving student, spending money on textbooks rather than food. Then when you actually arrive at college, the stereotype becomes a reality.

Support Supportland!

It is common knowledge that the economy is pretty much in the toilet. Oregon, and particularly Portland, has one of the worst economies in the country. But there is a new way to help support local businesses and earn rewards for you as well. It is all due to one card—Supportland.

Equality, not surgery

Student Health and Counseling is there to help the students, staff and faculty at Portland State, but when some students are upset with services that are not covered, does that mean SHAC is not doing its job? Not necessarily.

Ban the bottle

“Green” is everywhere at Portland State. Signs on the Portland Streetcar read “Green is more than our school color, it is our school spirit.” That green school spirit PSU prides itself on needs to start taking notes from University of Portland, the first West Coast campus to ban the sale of plastic water bottles.

Make it happen

Imagine a program where, if you wanted to replace all the light fixtures in a Portland State building with energy-efficient lights or LEDs, you could get a loan and the savings would pay back the money. Imagine a program with fully subsidized TriMet FlexPasses for students. Does any of this sound vaguely familiar? It should.

Medical misery

Portland State is a diverse campus with a diverse student body and faculty that have a multitude of needs. This includes the need some students have for medical marijuana—but PSU is a state institution, and school becomes increasingly difficult when you cannot use your medication.
