Portland State faculty and staff members who have been at the university for significant lengths of time will be honored during PSU’s annual Length of Service Award Celebration and Reception on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom.

“It’s an event that is very special and has a lot of heart and says thank you to the people who have worked long and hard,” said Cathy LaTourette, associate president of human resources at PSU. LaTourette is the main coordinator for the event.

Awards will be given to 47 members of faculty who have worked at PSU for 20, 25, 30 and 35 years. This year, four faculty members have reached the 40-year milestone, including mathematics professors Jagdish Ahuja and John Erdman, economics Professor John Walker, and Donald Carver, who works in the Branford P. Millar Library.

LaTourette said the reception is aimed to be down to earth and less formal than years past. Gifts of appreciation will be given to faculty based on their years of service. Recipients are encouraged to invite their family and friends.

Awards will be presented by PSU President Daniel Bernstine, Academic Affairs Provost Roy Koch, Lindsay Desrochers, vice president of finance and administration, and Cassie McVeety, vice president of university relations.
