Update on Banned Student

On Saturday, a Portland State student was banned from campus for sending threatening emails.

Gregory Reynolds, a 38-year-old white man, was identified in a photo in an alert sent out by the Campus Public Safety Office.

After the alert was sent, Reynolds was interviewed by local law enforcement and was not arrested, said CPSO Director Phil Zerzan.

Gunman on campus arrested, arraigned in federal court

David Chilton, the man who is accused of threatening a campus security officer and committing several other crimes in the Portland area, has been arraigned and charged in federal court.

The charges leveled against Chilton include armed bank robbery, car-jacking, possession of a weapon while being a felon and two counts of brandishing a weapon during a criminal act.

CPSO research indicates the majority of arrests involve non-students

A recent study shows that the majority of crimes committed on the Portland State campus aren’t perpetrated by members of the PSU community—a problem endemic to PSU because of its non-traditional urban setting. One of the downfalls to being at the heart of Portland is the fact that PSU is easily accessible to the public, resulting in crimes not usually associated with college settings. And many of those crimes involve heroin or other drugs.

Sara Renkins is the associate director for Transportation and Parking Services. She oversees the TAPs department, which includes the parking enforcement officers, who often face difficult or hostile people while on duty.
